About Me / Book a Consultation

Richard Stromer
I have spent more than twenty-five years accompanying people through the passages that matter most — the transitions, losses, spiritual awakenings, and threshold moments when the deeper questions of a life can no longer be deferred.
My formation for this work is both academic and lived. I hold a doctorate in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in depth psychology and world sacred traditions from Pacifica Graduate Institute — home of the Joseph Campbell Library and Archive — and I have been engaged in my own inner work for more than three decades. What that combination produces, I hope, is something rarer than either credential or personal experience alone: a practitioner who has genuinely inhabited the territory he guides others through.
I work as a personal mythologist, archetypal astrologer, and psycho-spiritual counselor. I established Soul Mentor in Oakland in 2000, and have offered sessions online since then to clients wherever they are. My approach draws on the depth-psychological frameworks of Jung, Hillman, and the imaginal tradition; the mythological wisdom of cultures that have always understood individual lives as participating in something larger than biography; and the archetypal language of the birth chart as a map of the soul’s particular journey in this lifetime.
I also work with people navigating the aftermath of profound non-ordinary experiences — psychedelic journeys, spontaneous spiritual openings, and encounters with the numinous that exceeded existing frameworks. This integration work draws on everything I know and have lived.
